Mamelodi Sundowns Vs Polokwane City

Mamelodi Sundowns Held to a Stalemate by Polokwane City

0-0 Draw Extends Sundowns' Winless Streak

December 30, 2023

Mamelodi Sundowns stumbled to a disappointing 0-0 draw against Polokwane City in a DStv Premiership encounter at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Friday evening. The defending champions failed to break down a resolute Polokwane defense, extending their winless run to four matches.

Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena made several changes to his starting lineup, but the team struggled to create clear-cut chances in the first half. Peter Shalulile and Cassius Mailula had half-chances, but Polokwane goalkeeper George Chigova was equal to the task.

Polokwane grew into the game as the first half progressed, and they had their chances to take the lead. Jabulani Maluleke came close on two occasions, but his shots were either blocked or wide of the target. The first half ended goalless.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Sundowns dominating possession but unable to penetrate Polokwane's defense. Mosa Lebusa and Haashim Domingo had efforts that went narrowly wide, while substitute Kermit Erasmus failed to convert a late chance.

Despite their best efforts, Sundowns were unable to find a winning goal, and they were forced to settle for a point. The draw leaves them five points behind log leaders Kaizer Chiefs, who have a game in hand.

Polokwane City, meanwhile, will be pleased with their performance against the defending champions. The point they earned takes them out of the relegation zone and up to 12th place in the standings.
