Real Madrid 4 Manchester City 3

Rodrygo and Valverde send Real Madrid through

Brazilian strikes a penalty in extra-time shootout

Real Madrid produced an incredible Champions League comeback to beat Manchester City 4-3 on penalties, with Rodrygo scoring a brilliant 90th-minute equaliser to force extra-time at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola's side led 2-0 inside 11 minutes through goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus, leaving Madrid with a mountain to climb to reach the semi-finals.

Yet Carlo Ancelotti's side, inspired by a raucous atmosphere inside their home stadium, fought back to level the match, with Karim Benzema pulling a goal back with a penalty just before the half-hour mark, before Vinicius Junior equalised just after the hour mark.

Substitute Rodrygo then sent the game to extra-time with a stunning strike from outside the box deep into added time.

In the shootout, Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish and Ilkay Gundogan were all successful from the spot for Manchester City, while Rodrygo, Karim Benzema, Luka Modric and Sergio Ramos were on target for Madrid.

City's Ruben Dias saw his penalty saved by Thibaut Courtois, before Mahrez sent his second effort over the bar to send the Spanish giants through to the last four.
